Get ‘Footloose’ for middle school musical

Calling all actors and singers: This year’s middle school musical will be “Footloose,” and auditions are coming soon. Audition packets will be available in mid-November from your middle school choir teacher. Auditions will be held at Athey Creek Dec. 2, at Wood Dec. 3, at Rosemont Dec. 4 and again at Athey Dec. 5. Callbacks are scheduled for Dec. 9.

Students who are interested in auditioning are encouraged to learn about the play. The musical is based on the 1984 movie starring Kevin Bacon; the stage version varies in many ways but does include famous songs from the movie including “Footloose.” Sign-up sheets will be posted near each school’s choir room around Nov. 10.

Important health reminders

As the cold and flu season approaches, West Linn-Wilsonville School District’s health services staff asks families to take the following steps to keep students healthy:

Keep hands clean. Hand washing is the No. 1 way to stay healthy.

Cover coughs and sneezes. Use your elbow to cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze.

Take care of yourself. Eat nutritious foods, drink plenty of fluids and get a good night’s sleep.

Stay home when you are sick. Students should stay out of school for at least 24 hours following a fever and/or gastrointestinal distress.

Test your FlashAlert subscriptions

As winter nears, the school district reminds families to update their FlashAlert subscriptions to stay on top of weather-related school closures and delays. Many previous subscriptions were removed during a routine system cleanup this fall, so everyone should access the system online at flashalert.net/news.html?id=19. Use the “Subscribe” or “Manage My Existing Subscription” links to update options.

On Oct. 30, a flash alert was sent during the morning. If you did not receive that test alert, you should log on to the FlashAlert system to update your subscriptions.
