Search for scholarships over winter break

Winter break can be a great time to work on scholarship applications. Through the online Family Connections tool, Wilsonville High School students can access a database of scholarships available to WHS students. From the school website, click the “For Students” tab and then click the “Family Connection” button in the list on the left side of the page.

Most of the scholarships listed there are for high school seniors, but some are available to younger students too. Scholarships are added to the database as they become available, so check in often. School board member honored

A member of the West Linn-Wilsonville School Board, Betty Reynolds, was recognized by the Oregon School Boards Association for completing coursework through OSBA’s leadership institute. Reynolds received the highest level of award, platinum, for her achievement in leadership and development.

Reynolds recently accepted a new position that emphasizes leadership. In October, she was appointed vice president for leaderhip of Oregon PTA by OPTA President Susan Hamann. Reynolds’ responsibilities will include chairing the OPTA leadership committee, providing leadership education and resources and serving as a consultant to region directors.

“I am honored by the appointment and enthusiastic about reinforcing the vital role parents and families play in student achievement,” Reynolds said.

Lowrie receives 925 new books

Volunteers from the Portland office of tax, audit and advisory firm KPMG LLP delivered new books to students at Lowrie Primary School on Dec. 12. The delivery was part of the firm’s Family for Literacy program. Students in kindergarten and second grade received classic books like “Peter Rabbit,” “Green Eggs and Ham,” “Amelia Bedelia,” “Where the Wild Things Are” and “Charlotte’s Web.”

“KPMG is committed to giving back to the community year-round, yet during the holidays giving back takes on added significance,” KPMG Portland Managing Partner Rich Callahan said. “And it’s very fulfilling to know that we are providing Lowrie students with the gift of reading, which can benefit them for the rest of their lives.”
