Sign up for Children’s Art Institute

The West Linn-Wilsonville School District is again offering students the opportunity to attend a week of art instruction over the summer. The Children’s Art Institute offers high-quality art instruction for children entering grades 1 through 12. Opportunities are available for adults as well.

The theme this year will be “Art Across Cultures: World Folk Traditions,” and artists will explore the development of imagination through artistic application. Each studio will accommodate all skill levels, with techniques appropriate for all.

Two sessions are offered: July 21-25 and July 28-31, both from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Stafford Primary School, 19875 SW Stafford Road. A show of student artists’ work will be held in the evening following the last day of each session.

Last day of school set

February’s snow days may be a distant memory, but their effect on the school calendar lingers.

The school board accepted the district’s recommendation that the district adhere to its original calendar, and so the last day of the 2013-14 school year for students will be June 13, despite the two days lost to snow. The last day of school for students will be a half-day, as it usually is. For teachers, the last day of work will be June 18. Teachers will spend June 16 and 17 engaged in professional development activities.

Boones Ferry book exchange scheduled

It’s time to start sorting through your children’s bookshelves, selecting gently used books that your children no longer enjoy. Send those books to school for the PSS-sponsored book exchange, scheduled for April 16. Every student at Boones Ferry Primary School will be able to choose two books to keep for their own personal library, even if they did not bring in any books to exchange.

Books may be deposited in the collection box in the library and on every porch at the school.

Register for kindergarten

Kindergarten registration for the 2014-15 school year continues throughout the West Linn-Wilsonville School District. Registrations are being accepted for both full- and half-day classes. There is no charge for half-day classes, and full-day kindergarten classes will again be tuition-based for the next school year, with monthy payments of $390 and a $125 deposit required at the time of registration.
