WL-WV honors 18 teachers

Annual event celebrates teachers move from probationary to contract status

A group of teachers from West Linn and Wilsonville schools have celebrated a rite of passage, participating in an annual school district event known as the Celebration of Excellent Teaching. The event celebrates the teachers’ move from probationary to contract status with the school district.

At the April 17 event, school board chairman Keith Steele, and Superintendent Bill Rhoades both addressed the teachers, along with a representative from the West Linn Education Association, the teachers’ bargaining unit.

This year’s class of 18 teachers marked an upswing for the district.

“In the last several years the numbers have been low due to our fewer number of hires,” the Director of Human Resources Kathe Monroe, said. “One year, in fact, we had just four. This year I am happy to report that we have 18 teachers moving to contract status. So it’s is fair to say that we will have a festive gathering. It is yet another important opportunity to celebrate teachers.”
