Wood hires new principal
The West Linn-Wilsonville School District announced Thursday, July 13 that Kelly Schmidt will take over as Inza R. Wood Middle School's principal for the 2017-18 school year. Taking over for Jim Sieverson, Schmidt was previously principal at Gardiner Middle School in Oregon City.
"Kelly is a seasoned, enthusiastic and dedicated school leader, committed to creating the best educational experiences for all students," WL-WV HR Director Kathe Monroe said in an email to families.
Meridian Creek plans community gathering
Incoming Meridian Creek Middle School students are invited to attend Wilsonville's Concert in the Park Aug. 10 starting at 5:30 p.m. in Town Center Park. Coordinated by the school's PTSA, the night of music and dancing will serve as an opportunity for students to get to know their classmates before the school year kicks off.
Spaces remaining for CREST's EnviroCamp
West Linn Wilsonville's EnviroCamp has spaces remaining for its July 24-28 session. For students entering grades 1-5, EnviroCamp is a nature day camp where students get the chance to expolore local creeks and forests, find interesting critters, play active games and make new friends. Students will learn to interpret their local natural environment by developing tracking, observation and survival skills.
The full-day camp runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. for $235 and the half-day camp runs from 9 a.m.-noon and costs $130. For more information, or to register for EnviroCamp, go to www2.crest.wlwv.k12.or.us/register/.
Two residents make Azusa Pacific dean's list
Wilsonville residents Nolan and DeHaven and Cameron Rose were recently named to Azusa Pacific University's dean's list for the spring semester. DeHaven and Rose joined 1,953 students on the dean's list, earning a grade-point average of 3.5 or better.
Azusa Pacific University is an evangelical Christian university with 77 bachelor's degrees, 45 master's degrees, 18 certificates, 16 credentials, eight doctoral programs and two associate's degrees.
