Endura-Contact forge a team
In December 2016, Contact Industries was purchased by Endura Products, Inc.
Behind the scenes, changes have been taking place, and as of July 16, the two companies now operate under the unified name of Endura Products, Inc.
Prior to the ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 19, Kevin MacDonald, vice president of operations for Endura Products, Inc., explained some of the behind-the-scenes changes.
"This is kind of the culmination of the last two-and-a half years," said MacDonald. "We have been step-by-step integrating our two companies. This week is the culmination of that integration. Now we are going to be just the Endura family."
In the process, he explained that innovation and providing solutions that make a better product is always a focus.
"Our product lines complimented each other," he added. "One of things we saw was an opportunity to leverage off of each other's capabilities, technologies and product lines."
Endura is known as a leader in the segment of entry door system components. Their headquarters are in Colfax, North Carolina — a suburb of Greensboro. The sales team operates in Clackamas, Oregon.
"We don't make the door panel itself, but we make almost all the components that go around the door system," explained MacDonald.
This includes the door frames, hardware, multi-point locking systems, and weather-sealing products that keep the air and water from coming inside a structure.
Among the many products that Contact Industries has made up to this point are highly-engineered components that actually go into the door panels.
"They had a different customer base, because they were the door panel manufacturer," said MacDonald. "The two businesses complemented each other. We saw Contact Industries as a very innovative company."
Endura Products, Inc. will continue to do much of what has been done in the Prineville company. In their segment, Endura has utilized some of Contact Industries' technologies and capabilities, which has resulted in a new product called "Fusion Frame."
The Fusion Frame will be a high-end door-framing component that will be maintenance free, rock-proof, and have a lifetime warranty. It can be pre-finished and also stained with any number of stains.
The concept and intellectual property or patents were developed in North Carolina at Endura Products, Inc. Contact Industries had the capability and lamination technology and equipment to make the product.
"That is what I mean by leverage off of each other's strengths," emphasized MacDonald. "The innovation started in North Carolina, but we were able to bring this to market because of the skills and core competencies here in Prineville."
Before the changeover, Contact Industries was headquartered in Clackamas, and Endura Products, Inc. will operate from an approximately 550,000-square-foot facility in Prineville.
Endura Products, Inc. is a third-generation, family-owned business. It was founded in 1954 and has multiple manufacturing facilities in North Carolina, Oregon and Texas, and distributes products throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Contact Industries has been a value-added manufacturer of engineered wood products, specializing in thin veneer technology and lamination processes that utilize a variety of substrates that are incorporated into doors and windows, institutional and residential furniture, cabinetry, and architectural projects.
"Through the years, what has always been important to us is innovation and providing solutions to our customers, in the form of better products," concluded MacDonald.
