The Hillsboro-based company is promoting from within, tapping Mike Howell for the top job.

PMG - Parr Lumber names Mike Howell as CEO.

A longtime employee of Parr Lumber Co. will take over next year as its president and chief executive officer.

Hillsboro-based Parr Lumber announced Monday, Oct. 21, that Mike Howell — who has served as director of yard operations — will succeed Doug Wirges, who is retiring in April.

Howell has been working for Parr Lumber since 1997. He started out as a truck driver and was eventually promoted to management. He became district manager in 2012, then was elevated to the operations director job in 2013.

Howell said in a statement that he is "honored and grateful" to be named as the Parr Company's next president and CEO.

"The Parr Company, their customers and partners have been such an important part of my life," Howell added. "I am looking forward to the new role and additional opportunities to serve this company and the customers."

Howell was chosen after what Parr Lumber described as "a comprehensive search" that started six months ago.

Nancy Cranston, chairman of Parr's board of directors, said Howell showed he had "the knowledge, experience and commitment necessary to lead the positive growth and further success of the Parr Company."

Wirges will stay on through April 3, 2020, the company said. He will assist with the transition.

Parr Lumber is also promoting Chris Alldredge — like Howell, also a 22-year veteran of the company — to the position of executive vice president and chief purchasing and business development officer.

Howell, Alldredge and Justin West, who is chief financial officer and executive vice president, will make up Parr Lumber's executive leadership team going forward.

In a statement, Wirges said he has "the highest level of confidence in this succession plan."

"These changes will set the Parr Company up for years of success in the future," he stated.

Parr Lumber is the best recognized brand of the Parr Company, although the Parr Company is officially a group of six companies under common leadership. The company was founded in 1930 and is still family-owned to this day.
