PMG PHOTO: JAIME VALDEZ - Majestic Realty Co. leased warehouse space to Amazon last year in a 229,146-square-foot building located south on 115th Avenue, just off of Tualatin-Sherwood Road.Amazon recently opened a "last-mile" facility — expected to employ hundreds of workers — in a large warehouse space in Tualatin.

The massive internet sales company recently began occupying the 229,146-square-foot warehouse located near the intersection of Southwest 115th Avenue and Tualatin-Sherwood Road.

Majestic Realty Co. built the warehouse on speculation, signing a lease with Amazon in the middle of 2019, said Phillip Brown, executive vice president of Majestic, a California-based firm with offices all over the country, including in Portland.

"They're just getting geared up," Brown said of the Amazon facility. "It's technically opened, but it takes some time ... before it's fully operational."

Amazon did not respond to requests for comment before press deadline.

"Last-mile" facilities generally refer to those sites, such as fulfillment centers, where products are kept until being moved to their final destination.

"So it's not like a warehouse with, you know, just a bunch of boxes sitting around, it's got really strong employment," said Brown.

"I'll tell you this, we worked very closely with the city of Tualatin and Washington County, and they were a huge help in getting this facility done," said Brown, adding that Majestic hopes to do other projects in Tualatin in the future.

"The Tualatin Chamber is pleased to welcome Amazon to our community," said Linda Moholt, executive director of the Tualatin Chamber of Commerce. "Thanks to our central location and thriving community, we're able to help businesses of all sizes succeed."

Majestic built the TopGolf driving range in Hillsboro, which opened in 2016. Brown said the company's next venture in Hillsboro would be to construct a 1 million-square-foot building kitty-corner from TopGolf, on the northeast corner of Northeast Brookman Parkway and Huffman Street.
