New Seasons customers required to wear masks
New Seasons has announced it will require all shoppers and store visitors to wear face coverings in all its outlets starting Wednesday, April 29.
The company began requiring staff to wear masks on April 14.
In a statement, New Seasons said: "We feel that the best way to protect our staff, customers, partners and community is to all wear a facial covering to help reduce the risk of spread of COVID-19, as recommended by the CDC. We will initially be providing free facial coverings at the door for our neighbors who may not have one."
OPB reported Wednesday, April 22, that an employee at Whole Foods in the Pearl District died from COVID-19.
A worker at the Hollywood Whole Foods has tested positive for the new coronavirus.
Trader Joe's began requiring staff to wear masks on April 4.
Last December, New Seasons Market was sold to a South Korean company, Emart, a discount retailer. Emart's U.S. affiliate Good Food Holdings took over New Seasons in January 2020. South Korea has been praised for its handling of the pandemic, which included having masks available in pharmacies and swift, free testing, leading to 240 deaths by April 24, 2020, compared to the U.S. total of over 50,000.
In addition to wearing the requisite facial covering while working in stores, all New Seasons staff undergo a verbal symptom check before starting their shift.
