Willamette Water Supply Program pipeline project begins phase 2
Construction has begun on Phase 2 of the Willamette Water Supply Program Metzger Pipeline East, located at SW Scholls Ferry Road and Hwy. 217 — but no traffic disruptions are currently expected, officials said.
The project constructs and installs a drinking water pipeline by excavating two 60-inch diameter tunnels, according to the Tualatin Valley Water District. The new drinking water supply system will begin service in 2026 to Hillsboro, Beaverton, and Tualatin Valley Water District customers.
Officials estimate the first tunnel could take about 12 days to dig below the highway, and the second tunnel to take about nine days. Construction crews are expected to be active on the site through February 2022 installing the pipe and restoring the site.
Emery & Sons Construction Group is the contractor for the water pipeline project. Salem-based Emery & Sons has also worked on water pipeline and storm drainage construction projects in Newport, Lake Oswego, Tigard, Bend, Deschutes, Sherwood, and on the Powell Butte Reservoir project in Portland.
