The new 1,500-square-foot shop is located at 1726 N.E. Alberta St., providing haircuts, shaves, braids and fades. Men typically have to go to two different barbers to get their hair braided on the top and faded on the sides, according to Chambers.

"I will provide a service that no one else in Portland can do at the same time. Everyone is welcome, no matter their race, gender or sexual orientation. Come get crowned," Chambers said. "I'm changing the stereotypes about barbers. I enjoy making people look better and feel better. To me, a haircut is more than just a service. It's a conversation. It's an experience."

Queendom Cuts is able to open partially in thanks to support from nonprofit Micro Enterprise Services of Oregon, which gave Chambers access to a savings plan, business classes, networking and assistance, Chambers said.

Northeast Portland-based MESO focuses on strategic planning and collaboration with local business owners with the intention of building stable and successful businesses in the community, according to its website.

The barbershop's hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Prices range from $30 to $90.
