Willamette Garage had a soft opening last week, with more carts set to open soon

West Linn residents have eagerly anticipated the opening of Willamette Garage, a food cart pod on Willamette Falls Drive, for several months. Their wait finally ended last week as Willamette Garage welcomed its first customers Tuesday, Aug. 2.

With several incoming food carts still working on their permits and work on the bar still underway, last week's opening was somewhat limited. The pod introduced four food carts: Street Heat, Electric Slider Company, Pinto Thai and Sushi San; a small beverage stand also served beer, wine and cider.

"It's been a very soft launch," said Mary Brennock, one of Willamette Garage's three owners. "The community has been great. People have been very patient as they've waited for their food. We've got this makeshift kegerator, but people have been great."

The property formerly housed Russ Auto Care, and in 2021 Brennock, Kris Tuor and John Stromquist purchased the land with the intent to open a food cart pod.

Two more food trucks, Indian Grill and Chop PDX, will open this week, followed by another two at the end of August.

Brennock said the bar will also open at the end of August, with a grand opening planned for September.

In the first few days, Brennock said people seemed to have really enjoyed Willamette Garage.

"That's the biggest feeling I walk away with every night. People tell me, 'thank you so much for doing this. This is great for our community.' The other day this place was filled with babies and dogs and kids playing tag in the grass, and then it kind of quiets down around 6:30 and a bit more of an adult crowd moves in,"

Willamette Garage is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and Tuesday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The food cart pod is closed Mondays.
