Wine tasting room, restaurant to open in Happy Valley
Happy Valley Tasting Room & Restaurant is expected to open in October, designed to maintain the character found at the Willamette Valley Vineyards in the South Salem Hills.
Scott Edwards is serving as architect for the vineyard's expansion into Happy Valley, drawing design inspiration from South Salem's materials, processes and people.
"With the support of our stockholders, we are taking the Oregon wine story on the road to new locations," said Jim Bernau, Willamette Valley Vineyards founder and CEO. "Wine enthusiasts are looking forward to tasting Oregon wine paired with Willamette cuisine in Happy Valley."
Located at the Happy Valley Crossroads, the new Tasting Room & Restaurant will feature a bottle shop at the entrance, a dining room, a porch, a wine cave and an outdoor patio. Each of these spaces is organized around what the architects refer to as "the heart," a central principle of the design that contains the back bar.
Made from touchstone Willamette materials, including walnut and matte black leathered granite, the bar influences design for the other portions of the restaurant.
Two of the three fire features, one indoor and one outdoor, are firepits carved into granite boulders. Three "barrel booths" will surround the indoor fire feature, offering guests a unique dining experience.
