Bank's brick and mortar outlets cut by 20 percent to stem spread of coronavirus

COURTESY: CHASE BANK - CHnse Bank is closing 20 percent or 1,000 of its branches due to coronavirus fears.

Chase Bank is temporarily closing 1,000 branches nationally, about 20 percent of the total, including many in Oregon.

The remaining branches are moving their hours to Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Chase said in a statement: "This will help us protect our employees as we provide essential services to our customers and the communities we serve."

Details include:

  • Financial advisors, small business bankers, home lending advisors will work from home starting Thursday.
  • Of those branches open, most have drive-up or teller partition glass to further safeguard employees and customers.
  • The remaining approximately 4,000 branches will operate as business as usual with reduced hours.
  • Chase said it is also providing free meals in its operations centers with on-site cafes, relaxing the dress code for employees and adding two paid days for employees' time away from work.
