FedEx expects to add more than 70,000 seasonal positions this holiday season, including more than 700 people at FedEx Ground facilities in the Portland area.

The company said in a release Monday, Oct. 5: "Open positions are available for package handlers, many of which may become full-time job opportunities as demand for our services grows and our networks expand."

These seasonal, part-time positions come with health benefits after a certain period of time. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, must be willing to load and unload packages and there are no minimum education requirements.

With the continued e-commerce boom during the pandemic where people seek to minimize trips form home, Amazon is also on a hiring binge.

Three weeks ago Amazon said it is recruiting 100,000 more workers at 100 new warehouse and operations sites opening for the holiday shopping season. This is the company's fourth hiring spree in the U.S. this year. In September it also announced 33,000 jobs for corporate and technology workers. Amazon employed 876,800 people as of June 30, 2020. That does not include contractors and temporary personnel.
