We listen: Winter Market is here!
The residents of Beaverton told the City in a Visioning Study that they wanted to have access to market products more than six months of the year. Many of these customers were driving to vendors' farms and businesses to get product in the off season which is obviously less convenient. We listened and the Winter Market was born!
Our Winter Market significantly benefits our vendors too, since many cannot survive on half a year's income and want to retain their trained and dedicated staff throughout the year. And thanks to the development of more cold-hardy crops and hoop houses or tunnels for cultivation, growers can provide us with crops during the winter. Because honestly, who doesn't want fresh, locally grown produce during the winter?
Our biggest challenge at the Winter Market is the unpredictable Oregon weather. Yes, it rains here, but usually not for long. The Winter Market opens at 10 a.m. to give you time to linger over a second cup of coffee and find your umbrella, especially on gray mornings. Each Saturday, our vendors are busily setting up their booths of wares and look forward to seeing their loyal customers.
The Winter Market is a perfect way to start your Saturday and prepare for your week. Come pick up a delicious canned cocktails to savor, microgreens for a favorite dish, pastries for a Sunday morning, soup for a cold afternoon and a fresh Dungeness crab would make any special event perfect. Don't let a little drizzle stop you from enjoying the Beaverton Farmers Market.
