Natural sunscreens for summer
National brand sunscreens use toxic chemicals. When protecting your skin from the sun, as recommended all year long, consider all-natural sunscreens that work with your skin naturally. Beaverton Farmers Market is proud to showcase two brands.
Essance Skin Care's Sun Factor Cream uses the mineral compounds zinc oxide and titanium dioxide for physically blocking the dangerous rays of the sun since it reflects the UV rays away from the skin rather than absorbing it.
"Contrary to sunscreens, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are considered safer because the particles are too large to be absorbed by the body. These ingredients are also known as natural sun blocker for both UVA and UVB rays. Titanium dioxide is actually more effective than zinc to block both UVA and UVB rays," Jasmine Tran of Essance Skin Care said.
Landia Skincare offers customers a mineral sunscreen using a simple, yet effective formula that provides a 30SPF without using toxic ingredients. Ingredients found in popular store-bought brands can result in "endocrine disruption, organ systems toxicity, reproductive toxicity, immunotoxicity and changes at the biochemical and/or cellular level," Kathy Grady of Landia said.
"Landia's active ingredient is non-nano, uncoated, pharmaceutical grade zinc-oxide that will not enter your bloodstream or organs and absorbs completely, leaving no white residue. We include organic shea butter and aloe vera leaf juice as well as wild-crafted camelina oil to provide moisture retention and water resistance," Grady said.
Stop by Beaverton Farmers Market on Saturday and let Jasmine and Kathy help you find the perfect sunscreen.
