'Listen for Joy' group headed by Bonnie Owens finds spiritual harmony
For Bonnie Owens, living in a retirement community does not necessarily mean she is retired! Bonnie sat down with me recently and shared an important aspect of her life.
Bonnie leads our spiritual companion group called "Listen for Joy" where participants focus on cards decorated with a specific piece of artwork while Bonnie poses meaningful questions for each person, based upon the artwork. As the moderator of "Listen for Joy," Bonnie invites each participant to share their thoughts and observations. The group is open to people of all faiths and Bonnie calls her participants "spiritual companions."
In addition to hosting this group here at Creekside, Bonnie is a Certified Spiritual Director with the Urban Spirituality Center in Portland, Oregon. Her degrees in speech-language pathology, philosophy, psychology, and counseling have led her on the path today seeking ways to guide others, including herself, to express inner truths openly, gently, and honestly. For Bonnie and those who participate in Listen for Joy, "each of us, all peoples of the world, are of the one spirit. Each person knows best his or her own store: a truth worth telling."
Thank you, Bonnie, for sharing a meaningful part of your story with Creekside.
