Fine art in the Golden Gallery at Beaverton Lodge
Did you know Beaverton Lodge has a significant collection of Northwest art? It's true! With over 430 paintings and sculptures, our residents are blessed with a fine art collection.
The collection came about from owners Alex Paul and Laura Ross-Paul and their vision to incorporate art in a senior living community. Laura is a well-known painter whose work has been featured in museums and galleries throughout the United States. Laura and Alex decided to have at the center of their art collection from former teachers and students from the Portland Art Museum School, now known as PNCA and decided having a gallery inside the residence would enrich the residents lives and provide an in-house educational and community opportunity.
As a result of this rich exposure to art and artists, the residents have attended openings inside and outside the residence along with museum and gallery trips. Many residents have become more informed about art and the artists from the Pacific Northwest home. Art director Grace Sanchez jokingly calls the collection "Little Versailles" because it features so many of the best Northwest artists in one place.
Our Golden Gallery features both notable and under-represented artists over the age of 65. The residents love living with art and enjoy having exhibitions that bring in members of the local art community. Each opening features an artist's talk which is well attended by members of the public as well as our residents. Over the years the residents have enjoyed getting to know these artists and their works.
Our art collection is the best kept secret in Beaverton and will be open to the public again, soon.
