New at BFM – Himalayan Dumplings
Yes! You heard that right, Kyikyi's Himalayan Dumplings are available at Beaverton Farmers Market.
As an immigrant raising two American-born daughters, Kyikyi found herself teaching her girls about their Tibetan roots and culinary heritage. Her desire to impart that knowledge to her daughters had an unexpected result: Kyikyi saw an opportunity for representation at local markets.
"Aside from being my favorite food, these dumplings closely mirror the Tibetan refugee journey of love and resilience overcoming tragedy," Kyikyi said. "The journey of Momo aka Himalayan Dumplings is akin to the journey of us Tibetan refugees. Rooted in Tibet, displaced upon invasion to neighboring India and Nepal, where it took time to be adopted and decades later, this national dish of Tibetans which was largely unknown outside Tibetan refugee homes in India and Nepal have now arguably become adopted as one of the most popular street foods in these Himalayan countries."
Today, customers can find the dumplings each Saturday at Beaverton Farmers Market.
"This will be my first time at the Beaverton Farmers Market, and I am so grateful to be given the space to represent my culture offering a taste of Tibet and the Himalayas," Kyikyi said. "When the pandemic started, all outdoor activities came to a halt, which inspired me to launch the first woman-owned Tibetan frozen food brand offering ready-to-cook artisanal (vegan and meat) frozen Himalayan Dumplings and Tibetan hand pies - something that was commonly requested for at my pop-up events in the past."
Customers can also pre-order at www.himalayandumplings.com and pick up their frozen orders from their booth at BFM.
