Swipe right for Beaverton Farmers Market
Cool meet-up spots are few and far between. So, when you want to meet up for some mom/kid time, before golf for the guys or breakfast for the gals, or a safe place to hang out for a date, think of Beaverton Farmers Market. After all, it is the original intent of the market.
BFM started in 1988 by the Central Beaverton Neighborhood Assoc. (CBNAC) as a social gathering place for the community. The original purpose was for social reasons more than shopping and few expected the market would become so popular. At the time, there were only two metro-area markets - there was much to learn. Within the first year, we had to form a governing board. Centrally located, the market offers an opportunity for customers to walk the park, shop nearby stores and even browse the stacks in the library.
"Our staying power and success have been because of a dedicated board, an incredible staff, vendors who have an opportunity to sell their wares and of course the customers who appreciate what is offered at the market and continue to come back each week to support the vendors," Paul von Bergen, a local attorney who has served on the board since 1989 said.
I am proud of many things about the market and one of them is that, despite how much it has grown, it has continued to be exactly what the CBNAC was hoping it would be and that is a place for the community to come together each week to shop, play in the park and get something fun to eat.
