A Washington County sheriff's deputy chasing down a reckless driver ended up trying to save her life on Saturday.

Cornelius resident Lois Lepschat, 48, died on Monday at Oregon Health and Science University Hospital from injuries sustained in the accident.

Deputy Eamon O'Reilly was responding to a citizen's report of a reckless driver at 12:53 p.m. on Sept. 14 when he came upon a 1997 Jeep that had crashed into a tree on River Road near Southwest Farmington Road south of Aloha. O'Reilly provided life-saving aid until medical workers arrived and transported her to the hospital in critical condition.

During the investigation, it was determined that Lepschat's blood-alcohol content was substantially higher than the legal limit of .08.
