Lori Leach moves over from Beaverton Swim Centers program coordinator role

The Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District’s Aquatics Department recently promoted Lori Leach, a 26-year veteran of the department, to supervise the Sunset Swim Center, 13707 N.W. Science Park Drive.

She started in her new role on Monday.

Leach replaces Brian Powers, who moved to the Beaverton Swim Center, 12850 S.W. Third Ave., to take over from Sharron Patapoff, who retired in August after 30 years of service.Leach

In addition to her year-round duties at the Sunset Swim Center adjacent to Sunset High School, Leach in her new position will oversee the district’s Raleigh Swim Center, 3500 S.W. 78th Ave., during the summer.

Leach started with the district in 1987 as a part-time employee, but quickly moved into a full-time program coordinator role at the Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center. In 1996, she was promoted to program coordinator at the Beaverton Swim Center, where she helped oversee the Specialized Aquatics program that Patapoff founded. She remained there until her promotion to Sunset. For the past three summers, Leach performed double duty supervising the district’s outdoor pool at the Somerset West Swim Center, 18300 N.W. Parkview Blvd., while maintaining her Beaverton position.

No stranger to full days at

local pools, Leach, in addition to holding full-time park district jobs, has at different times coached the Tualatin Hills Dive Club, served as the Lake Oswego School District’s swimming pool manager and coached diving for the Beaverton School District’s five high schools.

“The district is embracing change, and I welcome the opportunity to assist in program development and growth at both Sunset and Raleigh,” Leach said. “The timing is right for me. My children are now at ages where they are more independent. Sunset is a great facility to begin a new leadership role.”

Sharon Hoffmeister, the district’s superintendent of aquatics, is confident Leach and Sunset make a great match.

“Lori brings to Sunset an extensive background of aquatics expertise,” Hoffmeister said. “She will do an excellent job.”
