Standing water in tires helps mosquitoes breed; project keeps tires out of landfill.

Washington County residents are invited to drop off old tires for recycling this Saturday, Aug. 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Century High School, 2000 S.E. Century Blvd., Hillsboro. PHOTO COURTESY OF WASHINGTON COUNTY - Old tires can be recycled this Saturday.

Washington County Environmental Health wants to prevent mosquitoes from breeding, and Washington County Solid Waste & Recycling wants to keep those tires out of the landfill. The cost to drop off a tire is $1 for tires off the rim and $2 for tires on the rim. there is a limit of six standard passenger or light truck tires per resident; no business or agricultural tires. Tires must be clean, no mud or caked-on dirt. Proceeds benefit Tualatin Riverkeepers.
