Hope Chinese Charter plans fundraising gala
Beaverton's Hope Chinese Charter School, the Beaverton School District's only Chinese immersion public school, will host its seventh annual Xi Wang Gala the evening of Saturday, March 10, at the Oregon Zoo.
The dinner and auction begins at 5:30, and includes a silent auction and live auction to raise funds for the school. Tickets are available at hccs.ejoinme.org/2018xiwang
Hope Chinese Charter School's mission is to educate for global fluency by developing Chinese and English dual-language skills and nurturing cultural adaptability in its students.
"As the only public dual-language Chinese immersion charter school in Beaverton, we are raising critical funds to support the success of our students and to make immersion education available to those who may not have the means to afford a private education," said Mark Takehara, the school's president, in a statement.
As a charter school, Hope receives 8 percent of the per-student funding that neighborhood schools receive from the district. Fundraising efforts, including the Xi Wang Gala, help to fill in that gap.
