Unemployment remains low in Washington County
Washington County's unemployment rate held steady at 3.6 percent in November 2017, a 0.3 percentage point drop from the prior year and continuing the long slow improvement trend in the wake of the Great Recession.
The county added 8,500 jobs between November 2016 and November 2017. Manufacturing continued to add jobs with a 4.4 percent growth rate over the year (for an increase of 2,100 jobs). The education and health services sector came next with 1,700 new jobs.
Neither professional and business services, nor transportation and warehousing, recorded job gains over the year.
Hillsboro led the way on unemployment at 3.2 percent, followed by both Tigard and Tualatin at 3.3 percent and Beaverton at 3.4 percent. Sherwood stands at 3.8 percent.
