The informal gathering is set for Wednesday morning at Sunrise Bagels in Beaverton.

Beaverton Police officers will gather this week to talk informally with members of the community.

The event, called Coffee with a Cop, is set for 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Sunrise Bagels, 10902 S.W. Barnes Road.

The goal is to make the event informal, and to discuss community issues, build relationships and drink coffee. Similar events have been held in more than 80 cities in 24 states, Beaverton organizers said.

"One of the keys to Coffee with a Cop's success is that it removes the physical barriers that routinely exist between police officers and community members," reads a press release from Beaverton Police. "Informal contact in a friendly atmosphere increases trust between police officers and the members of our community which is critical to public safety and problem solving."
