Motorcyclist dies after Beaverton crash
A motorcyclist has died from injuries sustained Wednesday, June 20, in Beaverton.
Michael Robert Jones, 29, passed away due to the injuries he sustained in the crash, according to a Friday press release from Beaverton Police.
According to police, around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Beaverton officers, Washington County deputies and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash in the intersection of Southwest Murray Boulevard and Walker Road.
Jones was riding a 2011 Yamaha R1 motorcycle south on Murray, approaching Walker, police say. Witnesses said Jones was lane splitting and passing vehicles, ran a red light at Walker and collided with a 2014 BMW 535, which was turning left from Murray onto Walker.
Jones was transported by ambulance to Emanuel Hospital where he died.
Police say the motorcycle Jones was riding had been reported stolen out of San Francisco on March 31. Jones' family resides in California and he had recently moved to Oregon.
The intersection was closed for approximately three hours while police investigated.
