The foundation was created in memory of Sam Day, would have been 17 on the day of the event and who died from Ewing sarcoma. In creating the event, Lorna Day, executive director and mother to Sam, asked the community to "give the gift of more birthdays to kids with rare cancer." The foundation was created to address the underfunding fo research into rare pediatric and young adult cancers. For more information, go online to the foundation website.
