Metzger man pleads guilty to raping teenager
A Metzger man was sentenced to 75 months in prison last week after pleading guilty to raping a teenage girl.
Robert Alan Stewart was charged with two counts of second-degree rape and an additional charge of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, all felonies under Oregon law. He pleaded guilty in Washington County Circuit Court to one rape charge Tuesday, Dec. 18, in exchange for the other two being dropped.
Stewart was accused by prosecutors of raping a 13-year-old girl multiple times after meeting her online in 2013. He was 27 years old at the time but told her he was 19, according to the Washington County District Attorney's Office.
Stewart also plied the teen with alcohol and marijuana, prosecutors said.
Although the incidents were alleged to have taken place more than five years ago, Stewart was not indicted until this past July, after a school resource officer with the Tigard Police Department learned that the victim may have been abused, the DA's Office said. The Washington County Sheriff's Office took over the investigation and ultimately arrested Stewart.
Stewart has a criminal record in Oregon, including a 2015 conviction in Washington County for felony sexual abuse.
Investigators believe Stewart may have abused other victims as well. Anyone with information about possible crimes involving Stewart is asked to contact law enforcement or call the Child Abuse Reporting hotline at 503-731-3100.
Editor's note: A previous version of the story misstated the month of Robert Alan Stewart's indictment. Court records indicate he was indicted in late July. The story has been updated.
