Freezing forecast prompts additional hours Saturday and Sunday at Community Center, which has space for 30 adults

Beaverton's severe weather shelter will be open extended hours this weekend.

The shelter is at the Beaverton Community Center, 12350 S.W. 5th St. It will be open Saturday and Sunday nights. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the shelter will close at 6:30 the next morning.

The shelter has space for 30 adults, age 18 and older, on a first-come, first-served basis. Dinner and breakfast will be provided.

The shelter is normally open Thursday nights between November and March. It is open additional nights when the temperature is forecast to be below freezing for more than 48 hours and there are sufficient volunteers on hand.

The shelter is run by Just Compassion of East Washington County.
