Authorities say a Beaverton man has died after his paraglider plunged into the ocean off the Oregon coast.
Gary Brent Mudrow, 44, of Beaverton, was paragliding near Cape Lookout State Park on Sunday, June 2, with a friend, who told Oregon State Police he saw Mudrow's glider dip "too low" after they both launched off the cape.
The witness attempted to radio Mudrow but was unable to make contact before Mudrow's glider hit the water around 5 p.m. Mudrow was seen clinging to the glider, attempting to use it as a "floatation device," but the witness lost sight of Mudrow while landing.
Local firefighters from Netarts and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene. Mudrow was pulled from the water and brought onshore, but he was "not breathing and unconscious," police say.
First responders began to perform CPR. Mudrow was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased around 7 p.m.
