Meeting is Oct. 16 at Beaverton City Hall; online open house runs through Nov. 1. Both seek public views about how to promote 'first and last mile' links to public transportation.

How people can obtain better access to public transportation will be discussed at a community meeting, and an online open house, sponsored by the Washington County Department of Land Use and Transportation.

The community meeting is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Beaverton City Hall, 12725 S.W. Millikan Way. Short presentations and a question-and-answer session will be followed by small-group workshops, during which participants can offer their ideas.

The online open house is available for comment through 5 p.m. Nov. 1. A link can be found on the web page: https://www.co.washington.or.us/LUT/Divisions/LongRangePlanning/PlanningPrograms/TransportationPlanning/first-and-last-mile.cfm.

The project seeks to improve access to public transportation to encourage greater ridership on buses and light rail. The "first mile, last mile" report will solicit comments on unconnected sidewalks, poor lighting, infrequent signalized street crossings, improvements in bicycle and pedestrian paths and lack of transit near major employers. It also will look at on-demand transportation.
