Commissioner Jerry Willey, a Vietnam-era Navy veteran, will speak Nov. 11; county also plans a veterans art workshop Nov. 16 at Hillsboro Library on Brookwood Parkway.

The public is invited to Washington County's annual Veterans Day ceremony from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Nov. 11, at the Washington County Veterans Memorial, Northeast Veterans Drive and 34th Avenue, Hillsboro.

Parking is available at the TriMet Fair Complex/Hillsboro Airport stop. The event will take place rain or shine, with covered seating available.

The keynote speaker is Commissioner Jerry Willey of Hillsboro, a Vietnam-era Navy veteran.

State Rep. Janeen Sollman of Hillsboro will be this year's host. U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici will be in attendance.

The ceremony is sponsored by Washington County Disability, Aging and Veteran Services (DAVS) in partnership with Memorial Fund for Veterans of Washington County, VFW Post 2666 and American Legion Post 6. For more information, call (503) 846-3060.

On Saturday, Nov. 16, DAVS is partnering with Oregon Society of Artists to present Welcome Home: A Veteran Art Workshop from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the Hillsboro Library, 2850 N.E. Brookwood Parkway. Hear stories and see artwork created by veterans who have used art to connect with their community and explore their creativity after returning home from service.

All supplies are provided free of charge by Blick Art Materials. Pizza and other refreshments will be provided. Immediate family members, children and friends of veterans are welcome to join. For more information and to RSVP for the event, call (503) 846-3051.
