Breweries from around Oregon will celebrate the state's craft beer scene by taking part in the 12th annual Zwickelmania.

On Feb. 15, people can enjoy public tours, tastings, meet-the-brewer sessions and free samples. Participating breweries in Tualatin include G-Man Brewery, at 18799 S.W. Martinazzi Ave., and Stickmen Brewing Company, 19475 S.W. 118th Ave., and in Beaverton, Binary Brewing Co. at 6620 S.W. Scholls Ferry Road.

G-Man will have a new beer release ready for the event, while Stickmen is one of 30 breweries that collaborated on a special-release IPA.

"We do brewery tours during the event, so it's always a time where I can tell everyone how far we've come," said Three Mugs Brewing Co. co-owner Joshua Jennings, who is helping organize breweries on the Westside. "We've been open for almost seven years, and considering it's a family business, I get to explain a little bit of the brewing process."

Zwickelmania gets its name from the zwickel, a screw valve that mounts on the outside of fermentation or conditioning tanks and allows brewers to sample the beer inside for quality assurance and control.

In the suburbs outside of Portland, Jennings organized breweries from the area and paired them with local taprooms, which meant a shorter bus schedule for participants. The free transportation service starts in Hillsboro, goes through Beaverton's Five Oaks/Triple Creek area and Cedar Mill, and ends back in Hillsboro at Three Mugs Brewing, 2020 N.E. Aloclek Drive.

"It's taken a lot to organize it," said Jennings. "A couple breweries that didn't do it in the past took some convincing, but once I figured out there's so many participants this year, they were more than happy to do so."

The event will serve as the highlight of Oregon Craft Beer Month, a celebration that includes tap-takeovers, beer festivals, panel discussions and more. Portland metropolitan area breweries celebrate the event Feb. 15, while breweries throughout the rest of the state take part Feb. 22.

Thirty of the state's breweries have also collaborated on a limited-run Zwickelmania beer called the State of the Excitement IPA. The beer will be available for purchase at select breweries during Zwickelmania, with proceeds benefitting the Oregon Brewers Guild, which supports breweries, suppliers, education and collaboration.

Sherwood brewery Smockville Brewhouse, 22793 S.W. Pine St., will hold its own Zwickelmania promotion on Feb. 22. The brewery will have food specials and beer samples for eventgoers.
