Traffic signal goes live at Scholls Ferry/Vandermost
Motorists on Southwest Scholls Ferry Road may have noticed a new traffic signal west of Mountainside High School.
The traffic signal at the intersection of Scholls Ferry Road — also signed as Highway 210 — and Southwest Vandermost and Strobel roads went live on July 8, according to Heather Sturgill, a spokesperson for the Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation.
"The new signal was installed as a requirement of recent development in that area," Sturgill explained in an email this week.
Construction has been in full swing at South Cooper Mountain, a cluster of new neighborhoods being built in Beaverton's southwestern corner. The subdivision centers on Mountainside High School and parallels development at River Terrace in Tigard, which lies south of Scholls Ferry Road.
Sturgill said the intersection upgrades were paid for by a private developer, not by Washington County or the city of Beaverton.
Roadwork is ongoing along Scholls Ferry Road, from the newly signalized intersection at Vandermost and Strobel roads east past where Scholls Ferry Road intersects Southwest 175th Avenue and Roy Rogers Road.
A turn lane from Scholls Ferry Road onto Roy Rogers Road is currently closed as part of continuing roadwork on Roy Rogers Road, Sturgill noted.
Roy Rogers Road is being expanded to accommodate additional traffic from the River Terrace and South Cooper Mountain developments.
Vandermost and Strobel roads themselves are lightly trafficked at present.
North of Scholls Ferry Road, Strobel Road will serve as an access road for the Lolich Farms neighborhood, part of the South Cooper Mountain development. The neighborhood — named for Lolich's Family Farm, which previously occupied part of the land where it is being built — is being developed by Taylor Morrison, formerly known as Polygon Homes, which is also the main homebuilder in River Terrace.
Vandermost Road is a rural route that dead-ends about a mile south of Scholls Ferry Road, just past Hamacher Wines.
