Southwest Bible Church in Beaverton holds drive-in church service
A church in Beaverton is trying to make it easier for people to attend service without even leaving their vehicles.
On Sunday, July 26, the Southwest Bible Church is inviting the community to participate in a drive-in outdoor church service, according to an announcement from the church on Tuesday, July 21. The service will be held on the church's athletic field located at 14605 S.W. Weir Road in Beaverton.
"Be part of this worship service that will be broadcast live from our outdoor stage," said Southwest Bible Church senior pastor Scott Gilchrist. "Once parked on the field, participants can tune in their radios to listen to the service in the comfort of their own cars."
He added, "The drive-in church service is designed to provide a live worship gathering at a time when we are not able to meet safely in large groups due to COVID-19."
To provide a safe environment and respect the current state guidance, the church is asking that everyone remain in their cars for the duration of the event. Upon arriving at the athletic field entrance, participants will receive a program containing information on the service, lyrics for the songs, and the radio frequency.
"Parking hosts will provide instructions on where to park," said the church in a press release. "A minimum six-foot distance will be maintained but participants can lower their car windows to talk to the people parked next to them."
The service from the outdoor stage will include live music from church's worship team, a message from Gilchrist and a story of faith from a church member.
Activities will also be provided for children inside the cars during the service. People can drive by the Southwest Bible Church kids' tent in the parking lot to pick up the instructions.
The church will also host a car decorating contest for the most creative and fun vehicle for families with kids that are in fifth grade or younger, and the winner will receive a trophy and a Menchie's gift card.
The outdoor church service will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. with field parking open at 6:30 p.m.
