The tech giant is leasing a 50,000 square foot building just outside Tualatin Hills Nature Park

Apple is slated to expand its presence in Oregon, with plans to lease more office space just outside central Beaverton

The Portland Business Journal first reported Tuesday that real estate firm Colliers noted in a quarterly report on Portland real estate that the multinational tech giant was leasing 50,000 square feet of an office building located at 3555 S.W. 153rd Drive, near Tualatin Hills Nature Park.



The two-story building is listed as having an "open floor-plan" with bicycle storage, shower facilities and a "great view of Beaverton Creek and the wetlands," according to LoopNet, an online marketplace for commercial property. The site previously served as the corporate headquarters for First Tech Federal Credit Union.

In 2018, Apple opened opened a hardware engineering lab in Washington County, hiring two dozen employees, according to The Oregonian. It is not clear yet if the office is related to the lab.

It was rumored last year that Apple initially had plans to lease space at the 7 Southeast Stark building in Portland's Central Eastside Industrial District, according to the Business Journal, underscoring Portland suburbs' magnetic effect on big-name corporations.

Along with Intel, Portland and its surrounding suburbs have attracted companies like Amazon, Google and Airbnb.

"These preferences reflect the intersection (of) what companies need and their employees want. Portland has many opportunities for companies to take advantage of best-in-class properties located near plenty of desirable amenities," the Colliers report states.
