COURTESY: CITY OF BEAVERTON - National Welcoming Week is back with a series of events designed to bring together immigrants, refugees, and U.S.-born residents to raise awareness of the benefits of welcoming everyone.

Beaverton is bringing together immigrants, refugees and U.S.-born residents for the city's annual Welcoming Week next month.

Starting Friday, Sept. 10, the city is organizing a series of activities with the purpose of celebrating the contributions of newcomers, as well as opportunities to build cross-cultural relationships. The activities will run through Sunday, Sept. 19.

This year's theme is "Belonging Begins with Us."

Throughout the week, participants will have the opportunity to share their experience coming to the United States. Events will also feature cultural gatherings, exhibitions, cooking, workshops, storytelling and much more.

Welcoming Week arrives just after the Beaverton City Council declared the city a sanctuary for Afghan refugees.
