American Legion National Commander Paul Dillard will speak at the opening ceremony June 23 on his Oregon tour.

COURTESY PHOTO: AMERICAN LEGION DEPARTMENT OF OREGON - The American Legion Department of Oregon's annual state convention in 2016.The American Legion Department of Oregon is hosting its 103rd annual state convention from June 23 through June 25 in Aloha.

Aloha Post 104 will host the annual convention, which will feature a visit from American Legion national commander Paul Dillard. Dillard will speak during the convention's opening ceremony during the evening of Thursday, June 23.

Dillard is the head of the century-old national organization, which serves nearly 2 million members nationwide.

American Legion spokesperson Charles Schmidt said the annual state convention in Aloha will feature member delegates of the organization, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion from around the state, holding their individual convention in the Beaverton Elks Lodge.

Each convention will include year-end reports, recognize award recipients and elect officers for the coming year.

The National Commander will also visit other posts around the area starting June 19, including Banks, Carlton, Clatskanie, Forest Grove, McMinnville, Sheridan, Sherwood, Vernonia and Warren. Dillard will also tour the Evergreen Air and Space Museum in McMinnville.

People interested in becoming more involved in American Legion programs can join the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of the American Legion based on eligibility.
