Beaverton School District's $165 million, five-year levy to hire teachers at every school level. This is the renewal of an existing levy of approximately the same amount. Will cost the owner of a median-price house in the district about $300 per year. Our endorsement: Yes.
City of Tigard's levy to fund services by the police department, library and parks. Would cost the owner of a median-price house in the district about $300 per year. Our endorsement: Yes.
City of Tualatin's $20 million general obligation bond to address transportation improvements with new traffic signals and travel lanes; plus safety improvements like crosswalks and sidewalks. Would cost the owner of a median-price house in the district about $150 per year. Our endorsement: Yes.
Chairman of the Washington County Commission
We endorse Ryan Deckert. He served in the Legislature for a decade, and chaired the all-important Senate Finance and Revenue Committee. He was president of the statewide Oregon Business Association.
Washington County Commission District 2
We endorse Pam Treece, the executive director of the Westside Economic Alliance. She has good credentials in the arena of economic development. And she would add a little diversity to an otherwise all-male commission.
City of Beaverton
Two seats are up this month on the Beaverton City Council, and we are endorsing incumbent Marc San Soucie and newcomer Laura Mitchell.
Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor and Industries
We endorse Tualatin Mayor Lou Ogden. We believe he's over his head but likely would pick it up in time. He's been a good mayor, is respected throughout the county and metropolitan region and, though a Republican, has embraced many progressive policies.
