A poem about the Stafford Hamlet, land-use planning, the rural-urban divide and agriculture.

Most Hamleteers in Stafford like Active Agriculture a lot,

But, some Speculators in the Hamlet do not.

Speculators losing another development season,

Please don't ask why, we may know the reason.

It could be their heads weren't screwed on just right,

it could be, perhaps, that their shorts were too tight.

We think the most likely reason of all,

Maybe their bank accounts seemed way too small.

Whatever the reason, whatever your bet,

Hamleteers were thinking about paying huge debt.

The planners were planning from town to town,

Which gave the Hamleteers big grouchy frowns.

Planners and councils saw buildings galore,

Hamleteers cringed about roads, traffic, and more!

With five lanes on Borland, more trucks, buses and cars,

Hamleteers were hoping to still see the night stars.

Then came IGAs in parties of five and then three,

The Hamleteers thought now we'd be Development Free!

Developers wanted to develop, then dash,

all they could think of was big bundles of cash.

Then, Speculators embraced Active Agriculture Plans

And the Cities bought into Regional Community lands.

Metro, the County, the cities and more,

all gave grant money which Hamleteers adored.

Rural-Urban Interface is a victory for all,

Our future looks better, it is a good call.

If planners will join us we'll help them to think,

Stafford Agriculture a new "Carbon Sink."

Birds, plants and animals will fly, grow and roam,

We've helped mother nature care for their home.

A sustainable food source for generations to come,

Diverse, equitable, integrated for all just not some.

Rural-Urban Interface — Active Agriculture is our call

A new option for land owners some big and some small.

Transition or succession some ways to be planned,

Conservation, purchases, donation can be done with your land.

Hoping and waiting for development dough,

Will only help the State Tax coffers grow.

As you now fly in coach, have fun, raise your glass,

If you wait much longer your kids will be flying first class!

Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas whichever your season,

Why Active Agriculture, still wondering the reason?

The "Character of Stafford" we're all talking about,

Please, please when you're planning do not leave us out.

When the three cities party if ever they're able,

The Hamlet should be at the delineation tablet.

These are new options, the reasons seem right,

Season Greetings to all, and to all a good night!
