Dance to the power of 10
The city of Beaverton offers the annual Ten Tiny Dances celebration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, July 13.
The free, public event features a wide-variety of dancers who represent modern, contemporary and traditional ethnic dance forms. Ten choreographers will display their prowess on five stages, each 4 feet by 4 feet, in non-conventional sites. In past years, the venues have included the roof of the City Hall parking garage and in the midst of food carts in BG's Food Cartel.
Each of the five stages will be placed near The Round, 12725 S.W. Millikan Way, in downtown Beaverton.
Each stage includes two performers. Performances begin simultaneously on each of the five stages at 10 a.m. and will repeat every half hour. Visitors are encouraged to hit all five stages to experience the full effect.
Performers include The Allegro Dance Company, Shaun Keylock, Mike Barber and Cydney Wilkes, Addam Stell and TJ Yale, Decimus, Gabriela Guerra/Ballet Folklorico Academy, Annie Leonard, Jamie Antonick aka Jme James, Laura Onizuka and Sitara Lones, and Ritual Azteca Huitzilopochtli.
After the fifth round of dances completes, the public is invited to an "artist talk-back" at the BG Food Cartel stage, 12:30 p.m., to chat with Ten Tiny Dances founder Mike Barber and event choreographers and dancers, and to learn more about the creative process behind the event.
