Jesuit, Valley Catholic advance to state volleyball semifinals
With this year's state volleyball tournaments hosting just four teams on-site opposed to the usual eight, the quarterfinal matches were played at schools across the state, including in Beaverton where Jesuit recovered from a slow start to beat-back the Sprague Olympians 25-22, 25-4, 25-12.
The Crusaders were led by setter Jackie Carle, along with Tess Masingale, CeAnna O'Loughlin and Isabel Patterson who all finished with double-digit kills.
Elsewhere in 6A action, Bend defeated Oregon City in straight sets 26-24, 25-20, 25-18, West Linn narrowly defeated Sheldon 25-17, 16-25, 15-16, 30-32, 17-15, and Central Catholic outlasted South Salem 25-19, 25-19, 24-26, 22-25, 15-13.
West Linn will face Central Catholic and Jesuit will face Bend in the semifinals Friday, Nov.5, with the finals and third place games being played Saturday, all at Liberty High School in Hillsboro.
In 4A action, Beaverton's Valley Catholic defeated Cottage Grove, dropping the first set before rallying to win the final three in a four-set victory at Valley Catholic High School 20-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-21. The Valiants will next face Cascade in the 4A semifinals this Friday, Nov. 5, at Corvallis High School, with the winner facing the winner of the other semifinal between Philomath and Sisters to be played the following day.
