I hate to tell you this, but the Holidays are right around the corner. EEK!
So you had trouble getting to the gym during the summer. Excuses, excuses! Well, getting back to fitness in the fall is even harder, by January you will be fed up with the roll around your middle and will make a great big New Year's Resolution.
I suggest you skip all that and just begin working out NOW!
You still have time to get started and implement or renew those healthy eating and exercise habits before the busy (unhealthy) eating and drinking season.

Hire a professional trainer – Gain power in knowledge at the gym.
Join a group or class program - it's more fun and motivating.
Accountability - Work out with a friend
Start with small goals – achieve them and then set more
Document your progress – Use an App and don't cheat.
Wear a fitness tracker and USE it
NO Excuses! The only person you hurt is yourself
