According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in four Americans over 65 falls each year. For older adults, falls are the leading causes of fatal injury and nonfatal trauma-related hospital admissions. Shockingly, an older adult is treated for a fall in the ER every 11 seconds, and an older adult
dies from a fall every19 minutes. Fall prevention programs have been proved to highly reduce one's risk of falls and improved their overall safety and independence in life's activities.
You may want to contact your doctor if you experience falling and poor balance related to vision difficulties, medications, dehydration/water imbalance, blood pressure and blood sugar.
Factors that physical therapy can help with to improve your balance include: Vestibular conditions, pain, decreased sensation/proprioception, leg and core weakness, and normal changes associated with aging.
