The COVID-19 pandemic is stressful. We are fearful and
anxious and hoping that this will all disappear after the presidential election or in 2021. Chances are the novel corona virus will be here for a while. So how do we handle the ongoing distress and worry?
Learning to cope with stress in a healthy way will make you,
your family and your community stronger. Here are some tips from the CDC to take care of yourself.
Know what to do and where to get treatment if you are sick.
Knowing facts and not rumors and understanding risks will make the outbreak less stressful. Check the CDC website at cdc.gov for helpful information. Many medical offices
are offering phone and video appointments, so you can get help
without leaving home.
Take care of yourself. Eat healthy meals, exercise and get
plenty of sleep. If possible, step outside and soak up some Vitamin D and breathe the fresh air. Listen to the birds sing, they don't know we are in lockdown. Although the
temptation to drink more while we are at home is great, try to avoid doing so.
Make time to unwind and do something you enjoy. Read
that book you got for Christmas or watch "Frozen II" with the kids. Gardening and taking up a hobby you have let go are relaxing ad satisfying.
Connect with others. Facetime, Zoom and phone calls are safe and fun. It's a good way to share with others how you
are feeling and know you are not alone.
Take a break from the news, including social media. Constantly hearing and thinking about the pandemic is upsetting.
