Local woman sets musical evening before college

Samantha Owings will have a farewell concert on Aug. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Meridian School, 27905 S. Meridian Road in Aurora. Owings is headed to BYU for college.

She will do classical religious music from 6 to 7 p.m., folk and Celtic/Irish music from 7 to 8 p.m., and original music with jazz from 8 to 9 p.m., all using a harp, keyboard and her singing voice. A lawn chair is suggested.

Registration for Canby's annual 3-on-3 tourney is open

Registration has opened from the Canby Rotary's 18th Annual Nothing-But-Net Basketball Tournament slated for the streets around Canby's Wait Park on July 29.

The three-on-three tournament is for ages 8 to adult. Deadline for registration is July 12 by mail (PO Box 926, Canby, OR 97013) or by email on July 15.

Imagination library enrollment looking for children

Children from birth until their fifth birthday who live in the Canby School District can receive a free book by mail each month through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Canby Kiwanis is sponsoring this ongoing program to foster a love of reading that will last a lifetime, and encourages parents to enroll their children from birth.

Each month a new, carefully selected book will be mailed in your child's name directly to your home. It's a free gift, with no cost or obligation to the family, although you are asked to notify the program if your address changes. Online enrollment is available at, or registration forms are available at the Canby Kiwanis Thrift Store and the Canby Public Library.

CHS class of 1987 sets reunion

The Canby High class of 1987 will have a reunion on July 7 from 6 p.m. to midnight at Willamette Valley Country Club.

Cost is $60 per person and includes dinner. There will be an '80s band on hand as well.

Annual cruise-in set for Bremer's Corner

The annual Cruizin' 4 Life will be held Saturday, July 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bremer's Corner. The event will feature a tractor pull by the 59er's Antique Tractor Club, which starts at 1 p.m.

Zoar Lutheran sets pie auction, talent show

Zoar Lutheran Church will hold a pie auction and talent show on Sunday, July 9, as a fundraiser for the church's music ministry.

Talent show begins at 1 p.m. with the pie auction kicking off at 2 p.m.

The event is open to the public and invites singers, groups (acoustic), comedians, actors (short scene or monologue), juggler or storyteller to be part of the day.

Thelma's Place part of crowd-funding fundraiser

Thelma's Place is joining forces with the Home Instead Senior Care Foundation in a 65-hour crowd-funding project at July 11 to 13 to raise funds for dementia respite care. Thelma's Place will have a special event in conjunction with the fundraising event on Monday, July 12, from 3 to 6 p.m. with food, drinks, entertainment, a raffle and silent auction as part of the afternoon.

Canby church sets neighborhood block party

Canby United Methodist Church will hold a neighborhood block party on Saturday, July 15, from 4 to 7 p.m.

In addition to food, the event will feature a Zumba class (3 to 4 p.m.), Canby Community Preschool play area, crafts and games.

Canby High all-class reunion is set for later in July

The Canby High School All Class Reunion will be held Saturday, July 22, at the Monarch Hotel and Conference Center at exit 14 on I-205 at Sunnyside Road.

The event is open to anyone who graduated from Canby High School from 1970 and prior years. A shuttle service will be available for the reunion, departing at 10 a.m. from the Canby Adult Center and returning at 4 p.m. Cost is $10 per person and pre-registration is required. Calvary Mennonite sets annual Vacation Bible School

Calvary Mennonite Church and Rock of Salvation will partner for their annual Vacation Bible School July 24-27, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each day. This year's theme is "Maker Fun Factory: Created by God, Built for a Purpose." The VBS is for children ages preschool through fifth grade and will feature Bible adventures, games, snacks, imagination station, skits and singing.

New season of Canby Farmers Market has begun

Canby Farmers Market runs each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. along NW First Avenue, between Holly and Ivy streets.

This year's market will feature 25 vendor booths, live music, face painting, wine tasting, fresh produce, kettle corn and much more. For more information or to find out about being a vendor, check the website at
