A good-sized crowd gathered Friday evening to see the new artwork unveiled on the library wall

More than 60 people gathered outside the Canby Public Library Friday night about 6 p.m. to see what's new on the south wall of the building.

What they saw was a 45-foot wide vision of work by Canby artist Cathy Rae Smith, accented by some art from local school children. Originally, the plan called for dividing the wall into three 15-foot sections, but Smith's proposal was greeted with enthusiasm by the selection committee and on Friday, visitors got their first look at her vision come to life.

Canby Mayor Brian Hodson and Main Street Manager Jamie Stickel offered their thoughts on the project, followed by some words and thanks from Smith before unveiling the project.
