The Nutcracker comes to life on Canby stage
Canby's Allegro Dance Studio invites you to come see the Nutcracker at the Richard R. Brown Fine Arts Center on Dec. 9-10.
The Nutcracker is an exciting and family-oriented ballet and a fun holiday tradition to enjoy. Allegro Ballet Instructor Amanda Staehely said that the studio is grateful to have a supportive community that comes to watch their show and to support their dancers.
"I'm proud of this production. It's amazing to have such a great community that helps the studio by coming and seeing the shows…just having that support from the community is really cool," Staehely said. "We're really lucky to have that, and vice versa, lucky to have such a great dance studio in such a small community. It's kind of a really cool balance, and I'm just really excited to be a part of it."
Tickets for the show are $10 each, and are available now at Cutsforth's Thriftway in Canby and at the door of each show.
Instead of having to drive all the way to Portland to watch it, families can stay local and enjoy the Nutcracker in the town of Canby.
"It's a great tradition to start with the family, and something that we're able to offer and bring to Canby as opposed to people having to go all the way to downtown Portland to see this holiday tradition," Staehely said.
Staehely is excited to watch both young and seasoned dancers take the stage.
"I'm excited to see some of our performers perform for the very first time, the young ones," Staehely said. "It's really special to be able to have them start and be a part of this tradition as well as having them experience being on stage for the first time."
She added, "I'm also really excited to see some of these older girls that have been working for months preparing for these roles. They are working really hard, and they're tired and sore and blood, sweat, tears, the whole thing. I'm excited to see how they have improved so much and see them on stage and really start shining."
The community of Canby has two days to watch and support all of Allegro's talented dancers: Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Santa will be on stage at the 1 p.m. show on Sunday to take pictures and visit with children.
